Nishimon Dojo

Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu in Kent

Japanese Sword Arts

facebook cover imageWelcome to the website of Nishimon Dojo based in Thanet in Kent. Nishimon means Westgate and as we currently reside in Westgate on Sea, it seemed an apt name for the dojo. We are a dojo which teaches a number of historical Japanese Sword Arts. These arts are over 500 years old and passed down from the battlefields of ancient Japan to the modern dojos around the World today.

We study:

  • Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu
  • Eishin Ryu Battoho
  • Ono Ha Itto Ryu
  • Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo

Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu are arts using wooden or steel blunt swords. Most practice has no direct practical self defence application (as we don’t carry swords like the samurai used too) so are not taught as self defence but moreover as a way to improve fitness, flexibility, mental acuity, encourages confidence and self discipline to name a few benefits.

It is also a way to live history, if thats the kind of thing that floats your boat.

We welcome adults from the age of 18 and over.

We are fully insured and licensed instructors and have connections to the styles of swordsmanship we practice. These are old Koryu styles of Japanese swordsmanship.

Why not come and try it? The first lesson is free!
